New record in the works!

Hello from London! I’m here wandering around wide-eyed on my way up to teach at the Sore Fingers bluegrass camp in the countryside. I’ve heard so much about this camp for years, and of course heard so much about this country for even longer: it’s a pleasure getting to see it all with my own eyes now, and it’s really great to connect with the folk-music inclined people over here.

Just before skipping over the ocean I finished tracking on a record for Mr Sun, my new band with Darol Anger, Grant Gordy, Ethan Jodziewicz, at Dimension Sound Studios with Dan Cardinal at the helm spinning the dials and pressing the buttons. I’m listening to the rough unmixed recordings now as I type this, and I have to say I’m mighty excited about this record: we’ve got some new tunes by Darol, Grant and I, some co-writes, an updated take on Darol’s classic tune Key Signator, and all in all a record that I’ll be proud to share with the world soon. It’s looking like the title will be “The People Need Light”, and it’ll be coming out on Adventure Records sometime later this year or early 2015.  Adventure, by the way, is the same label on which Darol and I just cut a record that came out last month entitled “E-and’A”.

(here’s a teaser for one of the tunes that we recorded last week, a new one of mine called “a little heart’s ease”, as it was played by Grant and I with John Mailander and Steve Roy a couple of month’s ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAgcOsP7i7Q)

I’m working hard to get Berklee’s new weekend-long roots camp off of the ground. It’s happening in Boston in late June, and we’ve got an amazing faculty assembled, including Alison Brown, Viktor Krauss, Darol, Matt Glaser, Maeve Gilchrist, Paul Rishell and Annie Raines, Mark Simos, and Matt Munisteri. I’m excited to see what will when this group of people are in the same place for a weekend. Info is here if you’re curious: http://www.berklee.edu/summer/berklee-american-roots-weekend

That’s it, I think, for now. Come say hello out on the road: I’ll be hitting some of the Northeast states in May with Brittany Haas and Owen Marshall, Mr Sun, and Jonathan Edwards, and southeast Alaska in early June with Grant and Steve Roy, on the way up to Whitehorse to teach and play there.

Okay, now that’s really it. Take care!
